Introduction!

Hi!
My name is Neel Ramesh and for the next 10 weeks I will be working with the Bernie Sanders campaign. Every week I will post about new findings/events that take place while working with his Presidential campaign. My tasks will vary: from calling voters and setting up voter registration booths to analyzing voting trends and finding new ways for people to #feelthebern. Working in a campaign office requires a lot of flexibility so the goals of my project may change over time.

My project starts on February 10th.  Check out my blog to learn more about the national campaign process!

  1. Living in a primarily Republican state, will you base your research mainly in Arizona, or will you analyze patterns throughout the United States?

  2. Rohini - Since I will be working throughout the Democratic Primary Arizona being predominantly Republican won't really impact my work but I still intend on analyzing patterns throughout the United States including those in the primary and caucus that have already been completed.

  4. From what is being reported on in the news, it seems that Bernie is trying to reach minority voters. From what you see, what things is Bernie doing to achieve this goal?

    1. The answer to this can be see through Sanders' speeches on income inequality and the racial injustices in the prison system. Sanders also frequently brings up his Pro-Civil Rights voting record in attempt to lure over minorities (specifically Latinos and African Americans).

  5. Hey Neel! This project sounds really great and I know how much of a Sanders fan you are. You mentioned that you will be working within his campaign, but how did you get involved in the first place? Did you email him or sign up somewhere to help out in his campaign? And how were you able to get involved if you can't even vote this next coming election???

    1. - I emailed the head of the Phoenix office and explained my situation to him. Althought I can't vote I can still push others to vote in Sen. Sanders favor and with that in mind the campaign allowed me to continue with my internship!

  6. Hi Neel! In what ways exactly are you going to make people Feel The Bern?

    1. Calling voters, handing out leaflets and setting up voter registration booths. Basically, the campaign believes that the more people know the more likely they are to vote for Bernie! By providing people with knowledge we will help them feel the bern. Thanks for reading !

  7. Hey Neel! Since I know you're an avid supporter of Bernie's campaign, I was wondering how much influence your own opinion will have on your research? How do plan on addressing the subjective nature of this kind of research?

    1. There are two facets of this project. One is to get Sen. Sanders in office and one is for ME to study the patterns of voting. In terms of the subjectivity there is a clear bias in my first goal. However, I can provide an Inside look at the workings of campaigns that does not require me to be particularly subjective. In terms of voting numbers I will be citing which statistics support my claims in order to avoid bias of any kind. Thanks for reading and I hope this answered your questions!
